Video Zen
I’ve developed a bit of a fascination with online explanatory and informational videos. Here’s a collection of some of my current favorites.
The Five Hat Racks
Though I’m not crazy about the audio and narration tracks in this video, I think the motion graphics are great and the visuals help explain the concept well.
State of the Internet
I’ve heard comments that this type of video seems disjointed and without a coherent story. But I like the style. I think this is fun, engaging and stylish.
The Power Gap by Airside
An example of explaining a complex, complicated concept in a fun and thought-provoking way. Love the pictogram-man graphics. This is an example of how I would have liked my critical thinking explanatory video to come out.
Duarte Design’s Five Rules for Presentations
Another fun example of video production using PowerPoint.
WordPress Google Analytics Screencast
I always like Michael Pick’s work. A great, engaging screencast describing how to set up Google Analytics for a Worpress blog.
The Crisis of Credit Visualized by Jonathan Jarvis
Great example of explaining a really complex topic. Check out the story behind the making of the video.
Trillions by Maya Design
I’m really liking the stuff that Xplane is putting out lately:
The Carbon Economy
Did You Know 4.0
More stuff on their YouTube page.
Michael Pick does great work in my opinion. He’s now working for WordPress.tv, but you can still see some of his older stuff on his Blip.tv page.
